What is measured and how

Only three things are counted, and each one has to be proved by the browser at the moment it happens.

The three events

EventCounts when
ViewAt least half of the unit was on screen for one continuous second, with the tab in the foreground.
VisitA visitor clicked a unit and was sent to the destination.
Confirmed visitThe destination site’s own script reported that the visitor arrived and stayed about ten seconds, or scrolled a quarter of the page after two seconds.

Why the destination confirms

The site that sends a visitor is the one that earns from it, so its word alone is not enough. A visit is only worth anything once the receiving site — the one that pays — says the visitor really arrived and stayed.

What is not counted

  • Requests from known bots and automated browsers: they are shown no unit at all.
  • A click less than 300 milliseconds after the unit appeared.
  • A click on a unit that was never reported as shown.
  • More than 20 clicks an hour from the same address.
  • A visitor who leaves within three seconds.

In these cases the visitor is still taken to the destination. The click simply confirms nothing and moves no value.

Conversions

To record what a visitor did after arriving, call the tracker when it happens. It only records for a visit that arrived through a unit during this page load, so it cannot inflate anything.

loop('track', 'purchase', { value: 29 })
